PAID 10-MONTH ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE INTERNSHIPS !!

Our City Forest is now accepting applications for 22 Americorps Member positions:

  • 16 Urban Forestry Specialists
  • 4 Environmental Education & Outreach Specialists
  • 2 Volunteer Coordinators

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Our City Forest is a non-profit urban forestry and environmental action organization. OCF is recruiting 22 full-time community service members. The focus of this program is to organize neighborhood and school tree care and tree planting projects, provide community education, and recruit and train volunteers.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Members will perform tasks ranging from volunteer recruitment and coordinating community education and outreach projects, to coordinating tree planting and tree care projects. Members will receive technical training in urban forestry and computer software that is applicable to specific duties. Must be available to fulfill full-time (5 days/week) service schedule, starting Tuesday and ending Saturday. Program Start/End Date: September 2008 through July 2009 (10.5 month commitment is required).

BENEFITS
· $4,725 AmeriCorps education scholarship after completion of the program, if eligible
· $15,000 Stipend for 10.5 months (1700 hours) of service (living allowance valued at $8.50 per hour)

Associate Urban Forester

Seeking a new employee for the position of Associate Urban Forester. Small consulting firm, in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1989. We handle an active client base averaging 54 clients at any given time. We consult on general urban forestry and arboriculture matters, and fire management planning. We have clients at all levels of government (federal, state, county, and local) and private property owners. The new position is a starting position for a person with a strong educational background in forest sciences and urban forestry class work desirable. Experience in arboriculture work is also desirable. The applicant will need good computer, language and people skills as they will have a lot of public/client contact and will be producing reports. This is a full time position with medical benefits and will pay in the range of $30,000.00 to $40,000.00 per year.

Urban Forest Ecologist Professor

Hofstra University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor position in the Department of Biology. The successful candidate will be qualified to teach plant biology, ecology/evolution and ideally one other of the following subject areas: plant ecology, plant pathology, mycology, or phycology. The successful candidate should be able to teach courses at a variety of levels, i.e. non-majors, undergraduate majors, Master's.

Faculty in Biology must maintain an active and productive research program accessible to both undergraduate and master's research students. The specific areas of research are open, however preference will be given to candidates whose research involves urban habitats and who can participate actively in our nascent Urban Ecology program.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, experience in course development and design, and demonstrated teaching ability. An interest in and/or experience with innovative teaching techniques is desirable. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Interested individuals should: (1) submit a curriculum vitae (indicating specific teaching experience, (2) statement of research interests, (3) statement of teaching experience, interests and philosophy, and (4) have letters from three references sent to:
